Afton council approves replat to create lot for Star Valley Temple and dedicates Temple View Loop

The Afton Town Council on June 14 approved a simple subdivision and boundary adjustment to replat Lots 6 and 7 of the Haderlie Third Addition and Lot 9 of the Haderlie Fourth Addition so the Star Valley Temple may be located on its own parcel.

Surveyor Marlowe Scherbel told the council the replat would also create a second lot from the remaining land, dedicate Temple View Loop to the Town of Afton and grant a 66-foot easement to the Town for utilities. Gay Petersen, chair of the Afton Planning & Zoning Board, said the board reviewed the submission and recommended approval.

Councilman Rick Merritt moved to accept the Planning & Zoning Board recommendation and authorize the mayor to sign the plat; Councilman Bill Hoopes seconded the motion. Mayor Joel Neuenschwander voted in favor and the motion carried.

The dedication of Temple View Loop transfers responsibility for that right-of-way to the town and the 66-foot easement formalizes access for utilities, the applicant said. The council did not record any conditions on the approval in the meeting minutes. The council authorized the mayor to sign the final plat so the subdivision can be recorded with Lincoln County.

The action follows review and recommendation by the local Planning & Zoning Board and completes the council’s local approvals for the replat; the project’s next steps are filing the signed plat for recording and any subsequent permitting the temple project requires under town code.
