Shelby council adopts FY 2025–26 budget, approves pay raise and housing grant; economic grant tabled

Mayor Ron Kroll presided over the Shelby City Council’s June 17, 2025 meeting, at which the council adopted its annual budget for fiscal year July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026.

On a motion by Council member Karen Schlueter, seconded by Council member Todd Frank, the council approved Resolution 6-25-3 to adopt the fiscal year budget; roll call vote was recorded as all ayes and the motion carried. Mayor Ron Kroll opened the public hearing on the proposed budget and, after hearing no public comments, closed the hearing at 7:06 p.m.

The council approved several additional items by unanimous roll call. On a motion by Council member Jackie Hursey, seconded by Frank, the council granted a $4.00-per-hour raise to Tanner Stevens for completing an EMT course and obtaining national and state EMS certification; Stevens’s hourly rate was set at $44.01 effective June 17, 2025. On a motion by Hursey, seconded by Frank, the council also approved a housing grant application for Brandon Anderson of 506 West Street pending bank approval.

Council member Todd Frank moved, and Council member Karen Schlueter seconded, a motion to table consideration of an economic grant application from Shelby County State until the July meeting; roll call: all ayes. The council approved the claims list for June 17, 2025 on a motion by Hursey, seconded by Frank, by roll call vote (all ayes).

The meeting record shows Council members Traci True, Todd Frank, Jackie Hursey and Karen Schlueter present (Pat Honeywell absent) and attendance by staff including Clint Fichter, Chad Gordon and Michelle Mantell. The meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
