Fraser schools will provide universal free meals through Oct. 31 amid unapproved state budget

Superintendent Carrie Wozniak told the Fraser Board of Education on Sept. 22, 2025, that because the state has not approved a budget, the district will provide universal free meals to students through Oct. 31, 2025. Wozniak said the district’s Food Service Director will attend the next board meeting to provide updated guidance and any operational changes.

The update came during the superintendent’s report, which also included recognition of Vice President Todd Koch, who received a plaque from the board as he retires after nearly 11 years of service. Wozniak framed the meal program update as a temporary measure tied to the state’s budget timeline and indicated staff will return with more details on sustainability and eligibility when the Food Service Director presents.

Board members did not vote on a new policy during the discussion; they recorded the superintendent’s report and moved on to other agenda items. The district has set Oct. 31 as the current end date for universal free meals pending state action; the Food Service Director’s report at the next meeting is expected to clarify whether the district can extend that date or must change meal provision depending on state funding decisions.
