Fraser Board hears superintendent report showing student test scores recovering after COVID

At its regular meeting on Nov. 24, 2025, the Fraser Board of Education heard Superintendent Carrie Wozniak present cohort assessment data showing student proficiency fell by about 15% after the COVID pandemic but has increased each year since, particularly in older grades.

"The data shows after COVID the percent of students proficient dipped about 15%, but the number has been increasing every year since," Wozniak said, summarizing M-STEP, PSAT and SAT trends in English language arts and math from third grade through the current year.

Wozniak told the board that the decline was larger among younger students than older ones and that the district's targeted interventions and plans are producing measurable gains. She framed the results as evidence the district's approaches are beginning to reverse pandemic-related learning loss.

Board members did not take a formal vote on instructional changes at the meeting; the presentation functioned as an informational update. The board's next scheduled meeting will consider routine business and opportunities for school improvement, and staff indicated they will continue monitoring cohort outcomes and intervention effectiveness.
