Virginia council approves short extension for 2025 audit as finance staff await two determinations

The Virginia City Council voted June 30 to approve a short extension for the city’s 2025 audit and public certification after the finance director said the city is awaiting two outside determinations.

Finance Director Megan told the council it is "just waiting on information from two different parties" and that staff await a decision on whether the clinic constitutes a capital lease or a sale and a HUD determination on the timing and scope of a single audit of grants. "So, other than those two items that should be done," Megan said, "once we get information on those very quickly."

Councilwoman Box Snyder moved to approve the extension "based on the information provided by our finance director," and Councilwoman Motley supported the motion. Box Snyder said she favored formal approval so the council would "be all in the loop" and avoid any procedural or open‑meeting questions as the process continues.

The council approved the extension by voice vote. The motion carried; the minutes reflect a voice assent and no recorded roll‑call tally was provided during the meeting.

The council did not set a specific new deadline during the special meeting; staff indicated they expect the outstanding items to arrive soon and will update the council in future meetings.
