Dalton district reports 99 calls in June; board adopts five personnel and response policies

Fire-district staff told the Dalton District Board the department handled 99 calls from June 1–30, including 78 EMS responses and roughly 28 fire-related responses.

"We had 99 calls this last month from June 1st to the 30th and 78 of them were EMS," said the fire-district staff member reporting the monthly activity. Staff added that ladder-truck outfitting is nearly complete, training and signoff programs have started, and engine rotation plans are in place.

The report noted staffing changes: one paramedic left for Lennox and the department is actively recruiting for a full-time paramedic; Troy Bari received a promotion to training captain; and three firefighters, including a member identified as Charlotte, are due to graduate from the Mass Fire Academy. Staff said Mission CIT completed an assessment and that the department will review the assessment this week.

During the same report period, a board member moved to adopt five personnel and response policies—Policy 111 (employee callback), Policy 112 (employee holdover), Policy 106 (shift duties and expectations), Policy 305 (emergency response in personal vehicles), and Policy 401 (educational leave). The motion was seconded and passed with no discussion recorded.

The board also approved routine operational matters reported by staff. Staffing gaps and the active recruitment effort were noted as items staff will return to the board about in future meetings.

Next steps: recruitment for a full-time paramedic is underway and staff will present any candidates or further staffing updates to the board.
