Council clears South Fifth advertisings, approves $67,462 change order for Creasy Lane

The Lafayette City Council approved two engineering actions: permission to advertise the South Fifth Street concrete rehabilitation project and Change Order No. 1 on the Creasy Lane Community Crossings grant project.

City Engineer Jeremy Grenard told the council the South Fifth Street project would remove and replace concrete sidewalks, curb and gutter, alley and driveway approaches, and some ADA ramps. The project will also add bumpouts to allow for tree replanting; Grenard said the project is funded by a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and is scheduled for advertisement on July 3 and July 10 with bids to be opened July 21. The council voted to permit advertisement.

Grenard also presented Change Order No. 1 for the Creasy Lane Community Crossings grant project, saying additional curb replacement was required after a severe winter. The change order amount is $67,462.50, bringing the contract total to $1,993,815.40 and representing a 3.5% increase in contract value. The council moved, seconded and approved the change order by voice vote.

What happens next: staff will advertise the South Fifth Street project on the stated dates and proceed with bidding. The Creasy Lane contractor will receive the approved change-order authority and work will proceed under the adjusted contract amount.
