Quorum court approves a string of budget transfers; one ordinance fails for lack of a second

Marion County's quorum court approved several short, substantive budget amendments during its meeting, including transfers for road restriping, court security, vehicle purchases and courthouse repairs, while a separate ordinance to codify use of supplemental county general revenue failed for lack of a second.

The court enacted an ordinance to transfer motor fuel tax funds for restriping county roads and a separate appropriation from the court security fund of $18,699.99, which a court member noted was covered by a received grant check. The court also approved a transfer from the sales tax county road fund to the vehicles line (1801-0200-4005) and actions amending prior budget ordinances for FY2025–2026. A transfer from a 3601HP grant to fund courthouse building improvements — to repair the clerk's windows and install HVAC on the main floor and basement — was likewise approved.

An ordinance intended to codify the county's use of supplemental revenue (to define when county general obligations may augment approved budgets) was presented but failed because it received no second, ending that proposal without discussion or amendment.

The clerk's office also reported two routine items — a jury per diem reimbursement and a $900 election part-time position — which were handled administratively, and the court adjourned.

What happens next: The county will proceed with the approved transfers and bookkeeping changes. The failed codification could be reintroduced or revised at a later meeting if a sponsor secures a second.
