Council denies variance request for 384 E. 5th Ave, preventing a reduced Monroe Street setback

The Afton Town Council on July 8 denied a variance application for 384 E. 5th Ave that would have reduced the Monroe Street setback from 20 feet to 3.7 feet to allow a permanent greenhouse with concrete, insulation, heat and HVAC controls.

Town Administrator Violet Sanderson presented the application and noted the Planning and Zoning Board recommended denial. Council Member Scott Griffith moved to deny the variance and Council Member Michael Butler seconded; the motion carried unanimously.

The applicant’s legal description was recorded as PT of Block 26 of Lot 1 of the Original Townsite of Afton. The council did not adopt a compromise setback or attach conditions in lieu of denial in the public minutes.

The matter is closed unless the applicant seeks a rehearing or appeal in accordance with applicable town procedures.
