Auditor reports post‑election audit: 1,343 ballots reviewed, small discrepancies noted

Lincoln County Auditor Sherry briefed the commission June 30 on the county’s post‑election audit, reporting that the audit reviewed 1,343 ballots—about 9.51 percent of the 14,117 ballots cast in the primary.

Sherry described the scope: the audit examined several contests, including two U.S. Representative contests and a local charter amendment. “The primary election had a total of 14,117 ballots cast. The audited ballots totaled 1,343, which would be around 9.51% of the total ballots,” Sherry said. She reported that most contests showed no errors; in one charter amendment the audit was off by one vote because an overvoted ballot could not be located, and in a separate at‑large council contest auditors found one unstamped ballot that was not counted on election night but was tallied during the audit.

Sherry said the audit took four hours, with two five‑member boards conducting the review. Commissioners asked about turnout (Sherry estimated turnout near 30 percent) and were told no board action was required—the audit was informational.
