The New London Board of Education Policy Committee met Nov. 12, 2025, at the New London Public Schools Welcome Center and agreed to pursue regular outreach to the City Council on district programs and communications.
Karen Bergin, Committee Chair, opened the meeting at 1:05 p.m. and led a discussion in which committee members identified monthly City Council presentations as a tactic to raise visibility for district initiatives. Committee members said suggested topics include the district’s certified nursing assistant (CNA) program and student enrollment figures, counts and needs for multilingual learners, and a calendar or “NLPS event schedule” to share with council members.
The committee also discussed preparing a hypothetical presentation that would show “what the schools might look like” if funded only by ECS and city funds, a scenario intended to illustrate the potential impact of funding choices. Members treated these items as topics for outreach and information rather than motions or formal directives.
Committee members raised questions about ParentSquare, the district’s family‑communication platform, and discussed whether the tool is meeting the district’s communication needs. The transcript records a general committee discussion of ParentSquare’s effectiveness; no formal recommendation or vote on the platform was taken.
The committee set its next meeting for Jan. 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., to convene in person at the NLPS Welcome Center. At 2:00 p.m. Karen Bergin moved to adjourn; Susan Hambey seconded the motion, which carried 4-0.
The meeting record lists Committee members Karen Bergin (Committee Chair), Susan Hambey (Committee Member), Rich Martin (Committee Member) and Miles Daniels (Community Member) as present; Dr. Jennifer Hills-Papetti, Assistant Superintendent, and Miguel Gautier, Executive Director of Operations, attended for administration. The minutes were recorded as respectfully submitted by Kristea A. Francolino, Manager of Executive Support Services.
