Lake County planning commission continues two hearings to July 13 after state emergency guidance

The Lake County Planning and Zoning Commission voted June 29 to continue two public hearings to the commission’s next meeting on July 13 after staff said the county remains under a state-declared emergency and advised delaying hearings.

Staff told commissioners that the Board of County Commissioners, the county manager’s office and state guidance recommend continuing public hearings while the emergency is active. "We are recommending or we have been advised ... to continue any public hearings that we have scheduled this evening," a staff member said, and staff confirmed that all four commissioners are available on July 13 to ensure a quorum.

Commissioner David Jurich moved to continue the public hearing for file 26-15, the 2026 Leadville–Lake County comprehensive plan, to the July 13 planning commission meeting; a colleague seconded the motion (the transcript does not name the seconder). The motion carried with all commissioners present voting in favor. Jurich then moved to continue file 25-9, the Alpenflow Group Camp conditional use permit, to July 13; that motion also was seconded (second not identified) and approved by the commissioners present.

Staff also announced that Anthony Actis has expressed interest in serving on the planning commission and is expected to join the commission on July 13. The commission accepted the formal resignation of Ryan Hill from his appointment to the board, citing conflicts that led to his departure; staff recorded the resignation and said it will be handled at a future meeting.

Sterling Mudge was noted as being present in the boardroom during the meeting but did not add any substantive comments; staff invited him to speak and he replied that he had nothing additional to share and looks forward to the July 13 meeting.

With no further business, the commission adjourned at 4:13 p.m. The July 13 meeting will include continued public hearings on files 26-15 and 25-9, and staff said it has confirmed commissioner availability for that date.
