The SAN FELIPE-DEL RIO CISD board unanimously approved a purchase order not to exceed $1,227,531.40 to Val Verde County to finance construction of a parking lot behind Del Rio Middle School, administration said during the June 29 meeting.
Administration told the board the district previously committed $1.2 million for the project; engineering expenses of $95,000 were already paid, leaving a remaining materials cost reported in the meeting packet and a request to commit an additional $122,531.40 from 2025'26 fund balance to allow the district to issue the purchase order. Administration explained the cost increase reflected recent material-price updates and a multiyear delay between initial estimates and current procurement; board members raised the volatility of concrete prices and noted that material pricing will be reflected at time of purchase.
Administration indicated Val Verde County would construct the lot while the district provides materials per the intergovernmental arrangement described in meeting materials. Trustees approved the fund-commitment amendment and the purchase order by unanimous voice vote.
Board discussion included projected timing for construction start and sequencing (upper-level portion to be completed before middle-school football season) as reported by administration and referenced commissioners who had visited the site recently.
