At the America 250 event in The Villages the governor described Florida’s fiscal posture under his administration, saying the budget he signed represents "the fourth straight year where we've reduced our budget in Florida" and that an accelerated debt-repayment program will have paid off more than 52% of the state's total debt during his tenure.
He cited specific infrastructure priorities — accelerated projects on I‑75 and improvements to the I‑4 corridor — and framed those investments as evidence of using the budget to "advance core interest." He also said Florida has "more than tripled" its rainy-day fund and that the state has the lowest number of state government employees per capita among U.S. states.
The governor contrasted Florida’s $117 billion budget with larger budgets elsewhere, saying New York’s is "$268 billion" and arguing Florida spends less per capita despite population growth. He said the state's fiscal reserves could be deployed to provide targeted grants to localities that face shortfalls from property-tax changes.
