Westfield board approves special-use permit for storage container at 6195 Ogden Road

The Town of Westfield on Jan. 8 approved a Special Use Permit for a 190-square-foot storage container to be used as a shed at 6195 Ogden Road, issuing a Negative Declaration under the State Environmental Quality Review Act before voting.

Supervisor Martha Bills opened a public hearing on the application at 7:27 p.m.; the applicant, Tyler A. Pyc, was not present. Code Enforcement Officer Kenneth Shearer summarized the application and told the board that the Town Planning Board reviewed the matter on Dec. 11, 2024 and recommended approval with conditions.

The board adopted the SEQR determination that the project will not have a significant environmental impact and then authorized the permit on a unanimous vote. The permit includes the Planning Board's conditions: the applicant must place a 6-mil vapor barrier and pea stone under the unit and must remove or paint over any advertising or writing on the container. The permit is nontransferable and will expire automatically if the use is not begun by Jan. 1, 2026.

The resolution and permit package note that the applicant agrees to be bound by the terms of the application and the permit. No members of the public spoke in opposition during the hearing, and Supervisor Bills adjourned the hearing after no public comment was offered.

The board recorded the vote as unanimous: Supervisor Martha Bills, Councilmembers David Brown, David Spann, James Herbert and William Northrop all voted in favor. The Town Planning Board's December 11 recommendations were included in the permit conditions.
