During new-business discussion on June 29 the Walker City Council reviewed competing bids for street maintenance and asked staff to obtain revised estimates before deciding at its July 13 meeting.
Council received three written estimates: LL Pelling’s single seal‑coat bid for $54,687.60; Prairie Road Builders Inc.’s single seal‑coat bid for $60,672.24; and a Gee Asphalt proposal for a GSB‑H process priced at $75,873.40 that includes a two‑year warranty and would require street closures of three to four hours for application.
Councilors expressed interest in testing the GSB‑H process to compare dust control and longevity with traditional seal coating. The council requested that the Gee Asphalt estimate be revised to remove Latham Street, Wilson Street and Traer Street and to add Washington Street; Finance/Clerk Connie Helms was directed to request the revisions and to place the item on the July 13, 2026 agenda for discussion and approval of one of the bids.
No final procurement decision was made at the June 29 meeting. If council approves a bid on July 13, city staff will return with contract details and implementation timing.
