Hartland trustees hear manager updates; deputy clerk pay increase proposed after certification

During the June 2 meeting Township Manager Mike Luce reported several operational and development items to the board.

Luce said Dunham Lake Estates residents were told paving internal roads would cost about $6,000 per parcel if pursued without adjacent Tipsico Lake Road properties; participation by the Tipsico neighbors could reduce per‑parcel costs by roughly $2,000, and the board indicated residents planned to meet with the Livingston County Road Commission to explore funding. Luce said San Marino is submitting SAD petition forms and that Pleasant Valley (East/West Peterson) is also pursuing a special assessment district. He said the township is evaluating alternative IT service providers to replace VC3 and will return with a recommendation.

Luce also reported a pre‑construction meeting with Chick‑fil‑A and that a demolition permit has been issued; final construction plans for a Sheetz were expected imminently. The HERO Center requested that Pastor Russ Greer be allowed to use the Teen Center for Sunday services; the board expressed willingness to permit use if a nominal rental and appropriate liability insurance are arranged.

Separately, Clerk Ciofu told trustees Deputy Clerk Heather Cosgrove completed her Michigan Professional Municipal Clerk certification and had obtained a $10,000 Americans with Disabilities Act grant that funded ADA improvements at Township Hall. Ciofu proposed raising Cosgrove's pay to $31.00 per hour effective the next pay period and asked for the related budget amendment to Department 215. The minutes record the motion to approve the salary adjustment but do not record who made the motion or the vote outcome.
