The Sherwood Township Board said at its Sept. 3 meeting that members had been contacted on July 30 and agreed to repair the township fire department's tanker truck transfer case; Fire Chief Jeff Smurr told the board the repair work is in progress and may come in under initial cost estimates. Chief Smurr said surrounding departments have been informed of the tanker status.
Chief Smurr also reviewed recent call activity: eight calls in July, including a drowning assist, a car accident, a farm fire and brush fires, and five calls in August, including life-care assists, a smoke investigation tied to a furnace, a car accident and a motorcycle crash. He reported the department is moving forward with the process to obtain a new grass rig truck.
No formal motion to purchase new apparatus was recorded; the recorded action concerned approval to proceed with repairs to the existing tanker after board members indicated consent in late July.
