Sherwood Township allows Lakeshore Long Run to pass through township pending insurance

Sherwood TownshipBoard voted Oct. 3 to permit the Lakeshore Long Run, a road-running event expected to draw up to about 100 participants, to pass through parts of the township on Oct. 22, contingent on the organizers providing proof of insurance.

Resident Tim Haidl told the board the eventwill raise money for high-school scholarships, that the Branch County SheriffDepartment has been contacted to provide on-site presence, and that organizers do not plan any road closures. Haidl also said a triathlon is being planned for spring with part of the route in Sherwood Township and that he would keep the board informed of planning details.

Supervisor Aaron Robbins moved to allow the Lakeshore Long Run to enter township roads on Oct. 22 provided the board receives proof of insurance; Clerk Marjorie Whitcomb seconded the motion and the board voted to approve it. The board did not record a roll-call tally in the minutes beyond noting the motion passed.

Next steps: the organizers must provide the requested proof of insurance before the boardconsiders the permit fully finalized, and Haidl will continue to update the township on route details and safety arrangements.
