Board OKs Lakeshore Long Run; residents raise cemetery and rental concerns

The Sherwood Township Board voted Sept. 3 to allow the Lakeshore Long Run 5K on Oct. 19 after organizer Tim Haidl presented event details and fliers. Supervisor Aaron Robbins moved to approve the race on the condition the organizers submit proof of insurance; Trustee Haack seconded the motion and the board voted in favor.

During public comment, resident Doug Diamond asked for the acreage of the township cemetery and lawn, noting a five-year lawn contract is expiring and that he is preparing a contract review. Bill Courliss told the board that several lake properties have been sold to larger companies and converted into bed-and-breakfast–style rentals; Courliss said the Michigan Townships Association has suggested limiting such rentals in residential township areas.

The board also announced a temporary change to the garbage-collection schedule for Labor Day week: there will be no pick-up on Saturday, Sept. 7; catch-up service will run Sept. 14 and Sept. 21 to restore the regular schedule.

The meeting concluded with a motion to pay July and August bills, which passed, and a motion to adjourn at 8:40 p.m.
