Fire chief: grant submitted; department reports multiple calls and an equipment donation

Fire Chief Jeff Smurr reported that township firefighters responded to four calls in June and five in July and that training was held twice in each month.

Smurr gave a breakdown: in June the department handled an electrical fire call, a truck-versus-lawnmower incident, a burning complaint and a carbon-monoxide detector call. In July the department responded to a three-vehicle personal-injury crash, another burning complaint, a downed power line, a life-care assist and a mutual-aid tanker-only assistance with Colon and Burr Oak fire departments.

Smurr said Athens Auto Parts donated a battery charger and a replacement battery for the department's Saws-All. He also confirmed that he and Supervisor Robbins completed and submitted a fire-department grant application on time; Robbins told the board the township "should hear something by end of month."
