The St. John the Baptist Parish School Board adopted a resolution May 25 levying multiple millages on the 2023 tax roll, including regular support, maintenance and several bond millages.
At a regular meeting held in the Godchaux Grammar Cafeteria in Reserve, the board approved the resolution by roll call vote with 10 yeas and one member absent (DeFrancesch). The resolution lists specific mill rates for School District No. 1: Regular Support 3.710 mills; Maintenance & Operations 4.330 mills; Additional Funding 3.470 mills; Salaries & Benefits 10.560 mills; Support 8.000 mills; and several bond millage lines (0.190, 5.620, 1.650, 1.770, 1.770 mills) as presented in the resolution text.
Board members voted to authorize district officials to spread the approved taxes upon the parish assessment roll and to make collections according to law; the resolution states those taxes will become a permanent lien on property subject to taxation and renews collection authority in accordance with applicable statutes. The resolution was read in full during the meeting and was signed by Board President Shawn Wallace.
The adoption followed the board's presentation of budget materials earlier in the evening and came after a period of student recognitions and the superintendent's report. The detailed budget documents and the resolution were made available at the Central Office for public review.
