Board introduces Head Start emergency bus policy and 2023-24 calendar; facilities usage item pulled

The St. John the Baptist Parish School Board received several informational items at its Jan. 19 meeting.

Ms. Melissa Watson introduced a proposed 'Head Start Emergency Bus Procedures' policy for the board's consideration; the policy was presented for introduction and no final action was recorded at the meeting. Mrs. Rebecca Johnson introduced the proposed 2023-2024 school calendar for board review; that item was presented for consideration and not voted on at this meeting.

Separately, an agenda item regarding a partially suspended policy on public usage of St. John the Baptist Parish public school facilities (the L&F Committee recommended allowing nonprofit use at the Superintendent's discretion) was pulled from the agenda by Ms. Charo Holden and not discussed.

Why it matters: The introduced Head Start transportation policy addresses emergency procedures for early-childhood program buses; the calendar sets the academic schedule under which district schools will operate if adopted. Pulling the facilities usage item delays any immediate decision about community access to school facilities.
