Mobility management hub, pop-up bike lane and York County summit discussed

During staff updates and a mobility presentation, a presenter (speaker 10) told the Traffic Committee the York County commissioners are hosting a transportation summit on Aug. 13 and invited committee participation; staff said they would send details when the flyer is available.

Mobility-management staff described plans to facilitate a regional network of community leaders and to roll out programming based on a recent needs assessment. "We will be providing some of the findings from our York County needs assessment," the presenter said, adding the network would help communities connect to existing resources and funding opportunities.

Committee members reviewed a weekend pop-up two-way protected bike lane that ran to Rotary Park during a local event. A committee member read a handwritten letter from resident Pat Delaney asking the committee to consider a no-parking zone on the north side of Main Street (starting near 456 Main) to improve safety for cyclists on the Eastern Trail connection. Staff reported strong positive feedback from families using the temporary facility.

Members discussed options for a longer demonstration project, potential Chapter 42 experimental traffic orders for limited trial periods, and coordinating technical assistance and bike-rack programs with the Bicycle Coalition of Maine and MDOT. Committee members asked staff to schedule BCM or MDOT representatives for a future meeting and to prepare visuals and data on usage and complaints for the next committee meeting.
