Committee details Justice Building repairs, backup dispatch options and courthouse maintenance

Committee members told the June 30 Strategic Planning meeting that a contractor recommendation for Justice Building repairs is complete but the county will not finalize an award until required paperwork is in hand.

On backup dispatch, a presenter described a plan to add a duplicate bay adjacent to the existing dispatch area and to repurpose the current CSI lab for dispatch operations while relocating evidence storage above it. The speaker summarized rough cost estimates: about "500 and some thousand dollars" to add another bay and "approximately 175,000 for the first station" to outfit a fully operational console; additional consoles would be duplicated once the first station was complete.

The chair and others emphasized the need for secure, proximate space for any programming moved into the Justice Building and said ADA compliance is a key constraint. The chair noted the county is finalizing ADA restroom work and mentioned longer-term maintenance such as limestone sealing, painting and roof replacement that will require budgeting.

Speakers said some courthouse records are statutorily required to be retained and will limit how much storage can be shifted off-site to free space for programming. No formal procurement or contract award was recorded in the meeting minutes provided; committee members said they expect awards and next steps to be handled at a subsequent commissioners meeting once paperwork is complete.

The committee did not set a timetable for commissioning the backup dispatch project; members said estimates and scope would be refined before any funding request was presented to the commissioners.
