Broken Bow council approves consent agenda and appointments; postpones decision on square bathroom

At its April 14, 2020 teleconference meeting the Broken Bow City Council approved the consent agenda, which included the March 24 minutes, Bills to Date and the March Treasurer's Report. The meeting record lists detailed vendor payments and a total of $133,748.05 in bills.

Council approved multiple appointments: Kristine Moninger (Library Board, term to Feb. 2021) and Betsy Smith (Library Board, term to Feb. 2024); Russ Smith, Pam Schweitzer and Pat Powers (Park Board, terms to Feb. 2023); Jacob Karmazin (Broken Bow Health Board); and Kandi Peters as Deputy Clerk. Each appointment passed on roll call votes recorded in the minutes.

The council also discussed fees for fireworks stands and whether to place a temporary bathroom in the square. Park Superintendent Darren Marten said converting the old ATM building by Great Western Bank into a temporary bathroom would cost approximately $30,900. Councilmember Holcomb moved that the city not place a temporary bathroom in the square, but the motion failed for lack of a second. Councilmember Miller then moved, seconded by Councilmember Schmidt, to postpone the question until the May 12, 2020 meeting; the motion carried on a roll call vote (ayes: Schmidt, Myers, Miller; nay: Holcomb).
