Broken Bow council approves temporary street closures for evening candlelight vigil

Broken Bow — The Broken Bow City Council on Friday, July 17, 2020, approved a temporary closure of the west side of the square and South 9th Avenue from South D Street to South E Street so a candlelight vigil could be held from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. that evening. Mayor Rod Sonnichsen called the special meeting to order at 12:06 p.m. and announced the availability of the open meetings law.

Councilmember Miller moved to approve the street closures; Councilmember Schmidt seconded. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with Councilmembers Holcomb, Schmidt and Miller voting aye; Councilmember Myers was recorded as absent. Moved by Schmidt and seconded by Holcomb, the council then voted to adjourn at 12:07 p.m.

The action authorizes municipal staff and any required enforcement to close the specified portions of the downtown area for the stated period to accommodate the candlelight vigil. The minutes of the special meeting were attested by Stephanie M. Wright, city clerk.
