Broken Bow council ratifies teleconference actions, appoints street superintendent and approves auditorium agreement and easement

At its July 14, 2020 meeting the Broken Bow City Council ratified actions taken during earlier teleconference meetings, confirmed a personnel appointment, approved municipal property agreements and an easement, and convened a closed session to discuss imminent litigation.

The council voted to ratify all actions taken during teleconference meetings held on March 24, April 10, April 14, April 28, May 12, May 26 and May 29, 2020; the roll call for that motion was recorded as unanimous among the members present.

The council approved appointing Steve Parr from JEO Consulting Group as Street Superintendent for the year ending Dec. 31, 2020 (moved by Myers, seconded by Holcomb). The council also reappointed Butch Brunken to the Community Redevelopment Authority Board for a term ending in February 2025.

Councilmembers approved a License and Management Agreement governing use of the Municipal Auditorium for non-sports venues and facilities; that motion carried by roll call vote. The council also approved an easement at 244 South 9th Avenue for Opportunity Land Investments LLC; the roll call shows Miller, Holcomb and Schmidt voting aye and Myers recorded as abstaining on the easement.

The meeting record also shows the council moved into a closed session at 7:17 p.m. to protect the public interest with a strategy session for litigation that the body considered imminent. Attendees listed for the closed session included Mayor Rod Sonnichsen, the council, City Attorney Jason White, City Administrator Dan Knoell, City Clerk/Treasurer Stephanie Wright and Deputy City Clerk Kandi Peters. The council exited the closed session at 7:51 p.m.; the minutes do not disclose substantive discussion from the closed session.

The consent agenda recorded a total of bills to date of $299,574.65 that were included in the meeting record and approved as part of the consent agenda earlier in the session.
