Council approves Viaero Wireless permit to replace 60-foot pole with 100-foot tower near 17th Avenue

The Broken Bow City Council voted Dec. 8 to approve a conditional use permit allowing Viaero Wireless to remove an existing 60-foot pole at 1451 N. 17th Avenue and replace it with a 100-foot galvanized, self-supporting pole.

Mike Harms, site acquisition specialist with Viaero Wireless representing Industrial Tower West, described the project and said the new pole would be sited roughly 40–50 feet south of the existing pole. Harms told the council the Federal Aviation Administration does not require lighting for towers under 200 feet and that there were no plans to add lights because the site is in a residential area.

City Administrator Dan Knoell told the council the Planning Commission approved the permit at its Dec. 2 meeting and that the application met the city's zoning requirements. Following public-hearing procedures, the council closed the hearing and approved the conditional-use permit by unanimous roll-call vote.

The council did not record any conditions or lighting requirements in the motion as stated in the transcript. The permit approval authorizes the pole replacement described during the hearing; any additional conditions, site work details or building permits will be handled through the city's standard permitting process.
