Broken Bow council reorganizes for 2021, elects president, approves appointments and bills

The City of Broken Bow council met Dec. 8 and completed its year-end organizational business and routine approvals.

City Attorney Jason White administered the Oath of Office to Jacob Holcomb (West Ward) and Christopher Myers (East Ward) following the meeting adjournment of the prior session. In a subsequent organizational vote, Councilmember David Schmidt moved and Councilmember Larry Miller seconded a motion to elect Jacob Holcomb as council president for 2021; the motion passed on a unanimous roll call.

The council also appointed JEO Consulting Group, Inc. as the city engineer for 2021 and appointed Steven Parr (JEO Consulting Group, License S-859, Class A) as the Street Superintendent for Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2021. Council approved Resolution 2020-20, authorizing the mayor to sign the year-end certification of the City Street Superintendent form. All motions and appointments recorded in the transcript passed by unanimous roll-call votes.

The consent agenda, which included the Nov. 24 minutes, the Bills to Date and approval of the Broken Bow Volunteer Fire Department roster, was approved by motion. The transcript lists Bills to Date totaling $95,506.07 across named vendors and payments.

The council also approved opening bids for sludge removal at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, authorizing staff to solicit bids for that service. Chief Steve Scott, Library Director Megan Svoboda and Streets/Parks Overseer Darren Marten delivered brief department updates; no formal follow-up actions were recorded in the transcript.
