Broken Bow council merges deputy clerk and treasurer roles, updates pay ordinance

The Broken Bow City Council voted Dec. 22 to merge the offices of Deputy Clerk and City Treasurer and to amend the city’s wage ordinance to include the new position.

Mayor Rod Sonnichsen presided as City Administrator Dan Knoell explained that combining the two roles would streamline city financial and clerical functions. Councilmember David Schmidt moved to suspend the statutory rule requiring three readings and to adopt Ordinance No. 1236; Councilmember Jacob Holcomb seconded. The council recorded unanimous support among members present and the Mayor declared the ordinance adopted.

The council also opened and closed a public hearing on Ordinance No. 1237, the amended 2020–2021 Wage Ordinance, to add salary ranges for the Deputy Clerk‑Treasurer. After suspending the three‑reading requirement for that ordinance as well, the council voted to adopt it. Council approved the job description for the new Deputy Clerk‑Treasurer position in a separate motion, with the roll call showing all present members voting in favor.

The actions implement structural and pay‑plan changes for the city’s administrative staff. The ordnances were passed during the Dec. 22 regular meeting and were declared adopted by the council; the minutes do not specify an effective date for either ordinance.
