Gladstone Area Schools board approves $706,509.98 in bills and several personnel actions

The Gladstone Area Schools Board of Education met April 20, 2026, at the Gladstone Public Library and unanimously approved routine business including the payment of general fund bills totaling $706,509.98.

Board President Steve Tackman called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. After the Pledge of Allegiance, the board approved the agenda and the minutes of the March 17, 2026 regular meeting. The board then voted to pay general fund bills numbered 68182–68297 in the amount of $706,509.98; the motion was made by Henry Knoch and supported by Nathan Neumeier. The vote on the bill payment was recorded as Ayes 7, Nays 0.

Superintendent Dr. Jay Kulbertis provided an update on the upcoming State Strategic Planning Committee and the Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference; no formal action was recorded on those updates.

On personnel matters the board accepted a letter of rescind (EOSY 2026) and a letter of intent to retire (EOSY 2027) from Kim Alworden after a motion by Nathan Neumeier supported by Phil DeMay (Ayes 7, Nays 0). The board accepted the retirement of teacher Jeanne Pearson, effective June 3, on a motion by Neumeier supported by Andrew Sturdy (Ayes 7, Nays 0). The board approved moving Dennis Cannoot to the position of Varsity Football Coach on a motion by Jesse Seger supported by Neumeier (Ayes 7, Nays 0). Finally, the board accepted the resignation of teacher Deborah Johnson, effective June 3, following a motion by Neumeier supported by Joseph Huber (Ayes 7, Nays 0).
