Gladstone Area Schools board adopts budget amendment, approves $436,611 in bills and several personnel moves

The Gladstone Area Schools Board of Education on March 17 adopted Budget Amendment 1, approved payment of general fund bills totaling $436,611.31 and accepted several personnel changes during a meeting at the Gladstone Public Library.

President Steve Tackman called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. and noted members Phil DeMay, Joseph Huber and Henry Knoch were present; Nathan Neumeier, Jesse Seger and Andrew Sturdy were absent. After the Pledge of Allegiance, the board approved the meeting agenda and the minutes of the Feb. 16, 2026 regular meeting by 4-0 votes.

Business manager Lisa Boudreau reviewed the district cashflow statement and presented Budget Amendment 1 for consideration. Dr. Jay Kulbertis provided an update to board members on the State Strategic Planning Committee. A motion to adopt Budget Amendment 1, made by Phil DeMay and supported by Henry Knoch, passed 4-0.

The board approved payment of general fund bills numbered 68054–68181 in the amount of $436,611.31 on a motion by Henry Knoch with support from Joseph Huber; the tally was 4-0 in favor.

On personnel matters, the board accepted a letter of retirement from teacher LeeAnne Iverson, effective May 29; the motion was made by Henry Knoch and supported by Phil DeMay and passed 4-0. The resignation of Teamster employee and building aide Kayla Bizeau was accepted following a motion by Joseph Huber and second by Henry Knoch; that motion carried 4-0.

The board approved the hire of Alex Sjogren as junior varsity baseball coach (motion by Phil DeMay, second by Henry Knoch) and the hire of Jayddan Sivertson as a Teamster building aide (motion by Joseph Huber, second by Phil DeMay); both motions passed unanimously.

Because of weather, the scheduled Agriculture Research Class presentation was rescheduled to the next board meeting.
