Spadafora elected vice chair of Malden School Committee in unanimous vote

The Malden School Committee elected Ms. Spadafora as vice chair for the 2022–2024 term during a special session held Jan. 3 at Malden High School. Mayor Christenson called the meeting to order at 6:59 p.m., and committee members conducted a roll-call vote that resulted in a unanimous election.

The nomination was made by Mayor Christenson and seconded by Mr. Weldai; Mr. McCarthy later nominated Mr. Drummey but that nomination was not seconded and therefore did not proceed to a vote. Mr. Weldai then moved to close nominations, a motion seconded by Mr. McCarthy. A roll-call vote to close nominations carried with every listed member voting yes.

Following the close of nominations, the committee held a roll-call vote to elect Ms. Spadafora as vice chair for 2022–2024. The recorded votes were: Mr. Drummey — YES; Mr. McCarthy — YES; Ms. Spadafora — YES; Ms. Macklin — YES; Mr. Weldai — YES; Mr. Gray — YES; Mr. Bernard — YES; Ms. Rose-Zeiberg — YES; Mayor Christenson — YES. The motion passed unanimously.

Mr. Bernard moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:02 p.m.; Mr. McCarthy seconded and the adjournment was voted. The minutes note that notice of the meeting was filed with the Clerk of the City of Malden as provided under Chapter 39, Section 23A of the General Laws. The Clerk, Shirley Dorai, certified the minutes.
