School committee approves clerical MOA and school council lists; committee honors departing members

The Malden School Committee on Dec. 8 unanimously accepted a memorandum of agreement with SEIU Local 888 covering the district’s clerical unit and approved school council membership lists for its seven schools.

Mr. Iovino moved to accept the SEIU Local 888 Clerical Unit Memorandum of Agreement; the motion was seconded and passed by roll-call vote with all members voting YES. The committee did not provide contract dollar details during the meeting; staff implementation steps were assigned to Human Resources and Finance.

Later, Mr. Froio moved to accept the school council membership lists for the seven schools. The motion passed unanimously; Ms. Spadafora asked for a revised list that identifies co-chairs, and Superintendent Noriega‑Murphy said an updated list would be provided.

Committee members paid tribute to outgoing members Ms. Luong, Mr. Froio and Mr. Iovino; citations were presented and the departing members offered parting remarks. The committee then voted unanimously to enter executive session at 8:12 p.m. and reconvened at 8:36 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 8:37 p.m.
