Shelby City Council approves $56,075 forgivable loan to Western Iowa Wireless, $750 sponsorship and Meadow Loop listing

The Shelby City Council on Feb. 3 unanimously approved several routine and economic development measures, including a $56,075.35 Economic Development Forgivable Loan to Western Iowa Wireless and a separate $10,000 allowance for a small business startup, council minutes show.

Council member Pat Honeywell moved to approve the loan; Jackie Hursey seconded. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with all members recorded as voting aye. The loan is intended to support downtown building rehabilitation of the former Scoular office and to provide startup assistance for a small business.

In the same meeting, the council approved a KNOD sponsorship package for $750 to purchase 100 thirty-second radio advertisements at $7.50 each to promote a new housing addition. Council member Karen Schlueter moved the sponsorship; Jackie Hursey seconded and the motion carried by roll call (all ayes).

Council also approved a proposal from Vickie Errett, Managing Broker of United Country of Loess Hills Realty and Auction, to list available lots in Meadow Loop for a 3% commission. Pat Honeywell moved the listing agreement and Traci True seconded; the motion passed unanimously.

Presenter Cydney Shriver provided a brief marketing update for The Meadows, saying she will continue work on a landing page and will reach out to the newly approved listing agent, Vickie Errett, to coordinate promotions.

The council approved the Feb. 3 agenda at the start of the meeting and adopted the consent agenda — including minutes from Jan. 6, Jan. 13 and Jan. 20, the treasurer's report and the payment of bills — on unanimous roll-call votes. Mayor Ron Kroll asked for conflicts of interest at the outset; none were declared. The meeting adjourned at 8:23 p.m.
