The Shelby City Council voted Jan. 13 to authorize the sale of multiple residential lots in the Meadows Subdivision and to sell an eight-acre industrial site to MK Purple Martin, LLC for development of an apartment building.
The council held a public hearing required by Iowa Code Section 364.7 on the proposed sale of lots in The Meadows (lots numbered 18 through 47). Mayor Ron Kroll closed the hearing at 7:02 p.m. after hearing no public objections or comments.
On a motion by Councilmember Todd Frank, seconded by Councilmember Karen Schlueter, the council adopted Resolution 01-262 authorizing the sale of any or all property in lots 18–47 of The Meadows Subdivision, including 122 Meadows Loop (lot 42), at or above fair market value to private purchasers. The record shows the motion passed by roll call (all ayes).
In a separate vote the council approved a resolution authorizing the sale of an eight-acre industrial site to MK Purple Martin, LLC for development of an apartment building. That motion was moved by Frank and seconded by Schlueter. The roll-call vote was Traci True — No; Karen Schlueter — Yes; Todd Frank — Yes; Pat Honeywell — Yes; Jackie Hursey — No. The motion carried.
The council also voted, on a motion by Frank and seconded by Schlueter, to table finalizing and listing the subdivision lots until the Jan. 20, 2026 meeting. That motion passed by unanimous roll call. Mayor Ron Kroll asked at the start of the session whether any members had conflicts of interest; none were declared.
The special session adjourned at 7:30 p.m. The council is scheduled to revisit the subdivision listing on Jan. 20, 2026.
