Church Street work delayed; intersection closures expected; downtown events and business updates

Marketing Director deRoo told the Shopping Area Redevelopment Board on June 11 that the Church Street construction project is behind schedule and that asphalt removal between Central and Main is now expected the week of June 22. deRoo said sidewalks that include snowmelt systems will not be torn up and will remain open to foot traffic, but the intersection of Church Street and Cherry Street will be closed during the work.

Board members also noted downtown activity and property changes: Chalk Fest and Music on Main were taking place on Elm Street that day; El Rancho is nearing opening; 156 E Main was bought by Trevor Smith for office use; an RFP for redevelopment of 303 E Main remains open and could include adjacent properties; 1st CRC held its last service on June 7 and, if approved by a two-thirds vote on June 14, Grace Fellowship would occupy that building; Bridge will remain downtown; 43 E Main has been sold and is intended for a counseling practice. Board member Gentry reported seeing a resident drop off household garbage in dumpsters in the south parking lot that are intended for businesses.
