Superintendent Perry outlines district updates, highlights literacy efforts and honors Social Studies Fair winners

Dr. Cleo Perry, superintendent of St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools, presented district updates to the board via PowerPoint at the April 10 meeting in LaPlace, covering recent community engagement, staff trainings, recruitment efforts, student assessments and program initiatives.

Perry highlighted events including the River Region Chamber of Commerce Superintendent’s forum, CPI behavior-intervention training for staff, GOHSEP ALICE presentations on school safety and the district’s annual Special Olympics in partnership with Special Olympics Louisiana. The superintendent also noted job-fair and recruitment activity and efforts to increase K–3 literacy and ACT preparation strategies.

The presentation included slide metrics on mid-year DIBELS progress and other assessment snapshots; however, several numerical figures in the meeting transcript were not legible. The minutes record the district’s emphasis on increased implementation of digital tools and on targeted supports to improve end-of-year outcomes, with plans to continue monitoring progress.

During educational recognitions, the board honored winners of the district Social Studies Fair across divisions and categories, naming first- and second-place winners in multiple grade-group categories. The written minutes list many student winners by name; the board congratulated principals and staff who organized the event.
