Board hears construction, roofing and transportation updates for middle school projects

The New London Board of Education received an update on construction and facilities at its May 28 meeting. Secretary Bryan Doughty reported that the middle school project continues to progress and is expected to be completed around July, though crews are working through rock removal issues that he said may lead to litigation with a subcontractor. He also reported a temporary roof failed when it rained recently.

Mr. Gautier, the District’s Executive Director of Facilities and Operations, said the North Campus project is in its closeout phase. He told the committee that some districts are attempting to eliminate bussing, and the district is working to maximize state reimbursement—targeting as much of the roughly 80% reimbursement as possible. Gautier also said the City indicated the grass on a district field would be cut within 7–10 days ahead of field days and graduation.

Separately, the Board heard from the Finance & Audit update that the District will go live on MUNIS payroll in July and that year-to-date expenditures suggest the district is in good shape heading into the end of the fiscal year. The Board did not take votes on the construction issues during the meeting.
