Commission asks staff to pursue grants for sidewalk extension on CSAH 66 corridor

The Public Works Commission discussed a possible sidewalk extension from Bald Eagle Pass to the Marine Max entrance in conjunction with the county’s planned CSAH 66 resurfacing in 2028.

City Administrator Lori Conway said the curb could be removed to accommodate a sidewalk if the city either funds the work or secures grant funding. Conway said she will work with City Engineer Phil Martin on grant applications, and Council Liaison Robin Sylvester will investigate a TED grant as a potential funding source.

Commissioners did not commit city capital funds at the meeting and agreed to retain the sidewalk extension on long‑term agendas while staff pursue grant options and develop a funding strategy. If grants are not secured, the project timeline would be tied to available city funds and the 2028 resurfacing schedule.
