Early council approves consent agenda, street repairs and a cemetery-board appointment; cancels Fire Fights amid water watch

The Early City Council approved its consent agenda on July 6, which included the agenda, minutes, vendor bills for payment and special-event permissions such as an American Legion Sunday permit and Backpocket Brewing’s Sunday permit for July 25. The clerk’s financial reports and a long list of vendor payments were recorded in the minutes.

Citing a water watch and steps to preserve local aquifers, the council decided to cancel the Fire Fights event scheduled for Crossroads Days this year. The council also approved a motion to proceed with Midwest Coatings to repair designated city streets for the original bid amount; that motion passed on a show-of-hands vote.

Councilor Brian Pickhinke moved and Councilor Bill Cougill seconded approval of Mary Burns to the Cemetery Board; the appointment was approved by show of hands. Councilor Pickhinke was assigned to follow up on a warranty question related to ballfield-light repairs paid by Summer Rec and to report back at the next council meeting.
