Board rescinds several policies, updates Student Recognition policy and certifies Healthy Food participation

The board approved multiple policy actions as part of the Consent Agenda and took a separate amendment and vote on Policy 5126 (Student Recognition).

On the Consent Agenda the board moved to rescind Policy Series 5000 (Pledge of Allegiance, with information included in Policy 6115), rescind Policy 6114.81 (Emergency Suspension of Policy During Pandemic), rescind Policy Series 6000 (IDEA — Alternative Assessments, information included in Policy 6162.3), and approve Policy 5124 (Reporting to Parents and Guardians) and Policy 5145.53 (Transgender and Gender‑Expansive Youth) for second and final readings where noted. The Consent Agenda vote carried 6‑0.

Separately, Boardmember Susan Hambey moved (seconded by Nathan Caron) to remove the example sentence in Policy 5126 that listed "honor rolls, honor societies and special awards" to ensure examples are inclusive; the amendment passed 6‑0 and the main motion on Policy 5126 as amended also carried 6‑0.

The board also approved the Healthy Food and Beverage Participation and the related exemptions certification for July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025 as required by C.G.S. Section 10‑215f; the certification confirms the district will comply with Connecticut Nutrition Standards for the period unless items meet the stated exemptions (e.g., after‑school events).
