Mayor Wu urges Villa Park residents to use only "safe and sane" fireworks, outlines July 4 rules

Mayor Wu of Villa Park urged residents to celebrate safely this Fourth of July and said only "safe and sane" fireworks may be used in the city on July 4 between 12:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. He said lighting fireworks outside those hours is prohibited and may result in a fine.

"Only safe and sane fireworks may be used in the city of Villa Park on July 4th from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.," Mayor Wu said in the city announcement, which noted he was joined by Deputy Vasquez. He added that "possession of illegal fireworks can result in citations or other serious criminal charges."

Mayor Wu warned that illegal fireworks are unpredictable and can quickly lead to injuries, fires or arrests. He said the law applies to people under 18 and that parents can be held responsible for their children's actions.

Residents were directed to report illegal fireworks to Villa Park's non-emergency line at 714-647-7000. The announcement closed with a wish for a happy Fourth of July.
