Local summer sewing camp and 4‑H club celebrate 13th year, spotlighting skills and community

The program spotlighted the Kitchy Kitchen summer camp and the 13th year of a county sewing program that brings children together to learn sewing, make crafts and participate in fair competitions.

Shauna Duskins, representing Yellow Rock Ranch, demonstrated making beeswax wraps from hive wax and coconut oil and described teaching materials and safety for the children. “Hi, my name is Shauna Duskins. I’m from Yellow Rock Ranch and today we’re making beeswax wraps,” she said.

Allison Bailey, 16, introduced herself as the president of the 4‑Create sewing club and showed a 1933 Singer hand‑crank machine; she described learning to sew at camp and winning first place in the fair with a handmade apron. “I just did in my club. I came here 2 days ago to sew cuz I thought it’d be cool and I wanted a place to go,” Bailey said, describing how the program helped her learn new skills and find a community.
