Town Manager Kathleen Billings-Pezaris briefed the Selectmen on the town’s draft public-private broadband agreement with Consolidated/CCI and compared the document to an agreement used by neighboring Brooklin.
"TM went over contract with CCI; Travis said he hadn't gotten it and wanted to review it first. TM resent it to him during the Zoom Meeting," the minutes state.
Board members asked staff to clarify language about potential extra charges when unexpected site issues arise and to ask Consolidated for a timeline for contract execution. TM said Henry and Ian had participated in multiple project meetings and that the town would seek answers to outstanding contract questions before finalizing the agreement.
Why it matters: expanding broadband infrastructure affects broadband access for residents and has been discussed as a priority to improve internet and phone service in parts of Stonington that lack reliable connections.
What’s next: TM will follow up with Consolidated/CCI to clarify contract language and timeline; Selectmen will review the contract copy once provided and consider formal approval in a future meeting.
