Board adopts agenda-preparation policy, tables proposed leave-policy revisions

The St. John the Baptist Parish School Board voted May 8 to adopt a revised policy (BCBD) governing agenda preparation and dissemination and to table two proposed revisions to employee leave policies.

The BCBD policy, read into the record at the meeting, outlines who prepares the agenda (the superintendent in consultation with the board president), a deadline for closing the agenda (noon Friday immediately preceding a regular meeting), requirements for electronic distribution to media and posting on the board website, and the procedure for adding items after the agenda closes. The policy text cites La. Rev. Stat. Ann. §§17:81 and 42:19 and references case law in support of the provisions.

Two proposed personnel-policy revisions were the subject of public comment and board action. Mr. Alvarez Hertzock introduced revised policies GBRIA (General Leaves of Absence) and GBRIB (Sick Leave); public commenters Garrette Trosclair and Brandy Nora spoke on the items. The board voted to table both GBRIA and GBRIB for further consideration; motions to table were carried by recorded roll calls.

The BCBD adoption passed by roll call; the minutes record the vote and the policy text was entered into the record for the public minutes. The board did not take final action on retiree-health regulation EGAC-R at this meeting; that item was introduced for future consideration.
