Board approves budget transfers, personnel hires and treasurer contract extension

At its June 29 meeting the New Albany-Plain Local Board of Education approved several financial and personnel actions during roll-call votes.

Treasurer Rebecca Jenkins presented financial items and the board approved appropriations and transfers including a $750,000 increase to the food-service fund to pay for equipment for the new building, permanent-appropriation figures (general fund portion cited as $89,663,172.33) and transfers including $1.765 million to the permanent improvement fund, $20,000 to a turf-replacement reserve, $750,000 to fund termination/unused-leave benefits and $200,000 to the McCoy Community Center Arts fund. Jenkins explained the larger termination-benefit transfer reflected higher retirement payouts linked to STRS allowing retirement with 32 years of service.

The board approved superintendent items A–D, which included personnel actions. Dr. Fine highlighted resignations and summer staffing efforts, and recommended hiring Casey Cosgrey as assistant superintendent for teaching and learning; Cosgrey addressed the board and said she will start transition work immediately with an official start date of Aug. 1. The Ohio direct-admission data-sharing agreement and handbook updates were also discussed and staff described an opt-out portal for families.

The board subsequently moved into executive session under Ohio Revised Code section 121.22(G)(1) to consider public-employee appointment or compensation matters and later approved a contract extension for Treasurer Rebecca Jenkins; roll-call votes recorded affirmative votes from the board.
