County planning staff told commissioners on Monday that meetings with landowners, developers and the planning commission produced a clear preference to keep the West Weber Freeway alignment west of the river. Staff said they drafted a letter urging that alignment and will circulate a final version for signature by affected stakeholders and submission to UDOT Region One.
Charlie (staff) said those who met with county staff "all agreed that that's where it really should go," and that attendees did not raise objections to the west-of-river alignment. Commissioners suggested sending the correspondence to UDOT’s regional director and to legislative contacts, including Sen. Wayne Harper and Representative Christopherson, and asked staff to copy the transportation committee.
Staff said they would refine the draft, get stakeholder signatures and forward the letter. Commissioners emphasized the county’s interest in an alignment that serves Weber County and asked staff to continue outreach with developers and landowners.
No formal action was taken; staff will return with the final letter and signature list for distribution to UDOT and legislative offices.
