Chaska council approves routine bills, hears summer event and roadwork updates

The Chaska City Council on June 29 approved routine consent agenda items and authorized payment of bills, then spent the remaining time on brief council reports about summer events and local roadwork.

Councilmember Hatfield asked that the record clarify consent item 7B (assignment of an option with Foresight Real Estate) does not reduce the planned community park; staff and the council confirmed the lots to be sold to the school district are not included in the park footprint. Council also noted consent item 7D, a recognition for a long‑serving Human Rights Commission member named Hana, who recently moved closer to family.

Later in the meeting the clerk called the roll for the bills vote. Councilmember Hatfield, Councilmember Benish, Councilmember Shevlin, Councilmember McGraw and the Mayor recorded affirmative roll‑call responses and the bills were paid.

Under other business councilmembers reported a series of community events: fireworks on July 1 (and the Fire & Ice celebration July 10–11), Night to You Night registration through the police department, "Fishing with a Cop" at Fireman's Park, River City Days and a busy new farmers market location. Councilmember Benish warned that the Bavaria Road resurfacing project will start in early July and is expected to last several weeks; the exact start date was discussed in the meeting with slightly inconsistent references and was not definitively set during the session.

City staff (Lisa) reminded the council there will be no meeting on Monday, July 6 and that the next regular council meeting is Monday, July 20. A county‑hosted open house about Highway 10 and County Road 11 options was announced for July 14 at Westbrook Church around 5:00 p.m.

The council adjourned following a motion from Councilmember Hatfield and a second from Councilmember Benish.
